How is round robin in Distribution Engine different from native Salesforce assignment rules?
Native Salesforce assignment rules can rotate leads in a basic sequence, but they can't weight reps, cap volumes, account for availability, or reassign a lead that goes unworked. Distribution Engine layers all of that on top of round robin — weighting, caps, skills, territory, SLAs and auto-reassign — and lets the team that owns the work update the rules themselves, no Apex required.
Can I weight round robin so some reps get more leads?
Yes. Weighted round robin lets you give experienced reps a larger share of the rotation, or dial new hires down while they ramp. You set the weighting once and Distribution Engine handles the maths on every assignment.
How do I keep round robin fair when reps are on holiday or out of office?
Distribution Engine only routes to reps who are available. It factors in working hours, shift patterns, time zones and time off, so leads skip anyone who's out and go to the next available rep instead of sitting in an empty queue.
Can I round robin cases and other objects, not just leads?
Yes. Distribution Engine round-robins any standard or custom Salesforce object — Leads, Cases, Contacts, Accounts, Opportunities and your own custom objects — so sales and service teams can share the same fair-distribution logic.
How do I route leads by territory and still keep round robin?
Layer the two together: classify each lead into its territory first, then round robin within that territory so coverage stays balanced across the reps who own it. See our Territory Management in Salesforce page for how that works.
What happens if a rep doesn't action their lead in time?
Set an SLA — for example, 15 minutes — and if the lead isn't picked up, Distribution Engine alerts and automatically reassigns it to the next available rep. Speed-to-lead targets stay intact and no opportunity slips through the cracks.
Is it really no-code?
Yes. RevOps, Sales Ops and team leads build and edit routing rules through a visual interface inside Salesforce — no Apex, flows or developer tickets. Changes that used to take weeks take minutes.
How does Distribution Engine compare to other round robin tools?
Most dedicated routing tools handle the rotation itself well — the differences show up around it. Distribution Engine is 100% Salesforce-native, genuinely no-code and self-serve to set up (a working two-rep scenario takes a couple of hours, not a vendor-led implementation), and its pricing is transparent and per-user with no large annual minimum. It also routes Sales and Service (Leads, Cases and any object) and includes lead-to-account matching, weighting, caps, availability and SLA auto-reassign in one tool. See our comparison pages, e.g. Distribution Engine vs. LeanData and vs. Salesforce Omni-Channel.
Is Distribution Engine Salesforce-native?
100% native. Your data never leaves your Salesforce org, there's no external system to integrate or maintain, and everything runs and reports directly inside Salesforce.
